Russian Chief Justice Igor Krasnov Arrives In New Delhi For BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum

Russian Chief Justice Igor Krasnov arrived in New Delhi on Friday to participate in the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum, being hosted by the Supreme Court of India from September 4 to 6. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov and other officials received Krasnov at the airport. During his visit, Krasnov is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with judicial counterparts from BRICS member and partner countries to discuss ways to strengthen legal cooperation.
The Russian Embassy in India noted that the use of artificial intelligence in the justice system will be among the key issues discussed during Krasnov’s visit. His bilateral engagements are expected to provide an opportunity for participating judiciaries to exchange views on areas of mutual judicial interest and explore greater cooperation. The forum brings together senior judicial leaders at a time when technology and cross-border legal issues are becoming increasingly important for justice delivery.
Iran’s Head of Judiciary, Ayatollah Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, has also arrived in New Delhi to attend the forum. During his visit, he offered prayers at Jama Masjid and met its Imam, Maulana Syed Shaban Bukhari. Mohseni-Ejei also interacted with Islamic scholars and religious leaders representing various faiths at the Iranian Embassy, adding a broader diplomatic dimension to his visit alongside his participation in the judicial gathering.

The BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum has brought together Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts and senior judicial representatives from BRICS member states and partner countries. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with judicial leaders from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan. The meetings are intended to deepen engagement and facilitate direct exchanges on judicial and legal matters.
The forum’s substantive sessions will cover four major areas: mediation and international commercial disputes, cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards, artificial intelligence and the judiciary, and judicial leadership and sustainable development. Discussions will examine mediation in resolving commercial disputes, challenges in enforcing arbitration awards, the impact of AI and digital innovation on judicial administration, and the judiciary’s role in ecological governance and sustainable energy systems.
India’s BRICS Chairship is being conducted under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting a people-centric and humanity-first approach. The forum provides participating judicial institutions with an opportunity to address common challenges in justice delivery, international dispute resolution and technological change while strengthening institutional cooperation among BRICS members and partner countries.
