₹80 Lakh Worth Jewellery Recovered, Nine Arrested in Jharkhand Robbery

Hazaribag police nab gang, seize gold ornaments, silver coins, and other valuables.

Jharkhand Police have arrested nine individuals and recovered looted jewellery worth approximately Rs 80 lakh following a robbery in Hazaribag district, officials announced on Thursday. The arrests were made in the Hatyari area along National Highway-33, under the jurisdiction of Muffasil police station, bringing a swift resolution to a high-profile case that has heightened local concerns about rising thefts in the region.

The robbery occurred on the night of September 13 at a residence in Babhni village, also under Muffasil police station limits, where eight perpetrators stole jewellery valued at Rs 80 lakh. Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan stated that a case was registered on September 15, prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Acting on a tip-off about suspects gathering in Hatyari forest, the SIT conducted a raid, apprehending the gang leader, Ranvir Kumar Singh alias Chotu, and eight accomplices.

Based on information provided by the suspects during interrogation, police recovered 131 gold ornaments, 25 silver coins, two motorcycles, a country-made pistol, and other items linked to the crime. The swift recovery and arrests highlight the police’s efforts to curb a recent surge in robberies across Jharkhand, particularly targeting jewellery shops and residences in districts like Hazaribag, Ranchi, and Jamshedpur.

The investigation remains ongoing to determine if the gang is connected to other recent heists in the state, including jewellery shop robberies reported in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as Hazaribag continues to grapple with a spike in criminal incidents, with two other robbery cases reported in the district this year.
