Rs 3,850 Crore Allocated To Gujarat Urban Local Bodies For Development

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday distributed development grants totalling Rs 3,850 crore to the state’s municipal corporations and municipalities under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme.

Of the total allocation, 17 municipal corporations received Rs 2,992 crore, while 152 municipalities were given Rs 858 crore. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation received the largest share among the corporations at Rs 870 crore, followed by Surat with Rs 770 crore. Vadodara was allocated Rs 285 crore, Rajkot Rs 232 crore, while Bhavnagar and Jamnagar received Rs 105 crore each.

Junagadh and Gandhinagar were each allocated Rs 65 crore, while Gandhidham, Navsari, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Mehsana, Vapi, Nadiad, Anand and Morbi received Rs 55 crore each. Among the municipalities, 41 Class A municipalities received Rs 307.50 crore, 34 Class B municipalities received Rs 221 crore, 60 Class C municipalities received Rs 270 crore and 17 Class D municipalities received Rs 59.50 crore.

Addressing the ceremony in Gandhinagar, Patel noted that the grants were aimed at supporting comprehensive urban development and improving public amenities and civic services. He stressed the need for municipal services to be citizen-centric, transparent, accountable and technology-driven, while urging elected representatives and civic officials to ensure that the funds are utilised for high-quality public works.

Urban Development and Finance Minister Kanu Desai also stressed the need to plan urban infrastructure with climate change in mind and promote cleaner, greener cities. Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela noted that the state’s urban development initiatives were focused on improving the quality of life, including through initiatives supporting local craftsmen, artists and solid-waste management.

During the ceremony, Patel released two coffee table books, ‘20 Years of Urban Development’ and ‘Anant Anadi Vadnagar: A Glorious Saga of Development Through Heritage’. The event was attended by ministers, senior Urban Development Department officials, municipal commissioners, elected representatives, municipal presidents and chief officers.
