Rs 20 Crore Allocated In Gujarat Budget For Theme-Based Urban Parks

State budget funds Namo Gaurav Parks to enhance recreation, culture, and green spaces in cities.

The Gujarat government on Friday announced a Rs 20 crore allocation in the 2026–27 state budget for the development of theme-based “Namo Gaurav Parks” in municipal corporation areas, officials said. The overall proposed outlay for the project is Rs 100 crore, aimed at creating modern recreational infrastructure for urban residents under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department.

The initiative comes amid growing demand for quality open spaces in rapidly urbanising cities, where the availability of leisure and cultural areas has declined. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state plans to establish parks that provide “safe, inclusive and vibrant community spaces” catering to all age groups, from children to senior citizens. Officials noted that the parks are intended to meet both recreational and cultural needs while promoting holistic health and well-being.

Each Namo Gaurav Park will feature children’s play zones with modern equipment, theme-based landscaping with native trees and flower beds, as well as installations of sculptures and artworks. Dedicated green areas such as butterfly gardens and herbal gardens will be included to enhance ecological and aesthetic appeal. Fitness and sports facilities will comprise open-air gyms, jogging and walking tracks, and spaces for games such as badminton and volleyball.

Cultural and recreational amenities will include open-air amphitheatres, performance stages, and lawns suitable for yoga and meditation sessions. Water features such as ponds and fountains will be incorporated, alongside eco-friendly measures like drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting systems. Public amenities will include clean drinking water, accessible toilets, benches, gazebos, and pathways designed for universal accessibility.

Smart park features are also planned, including solar-powered operations, Wi-Fi connectivity, sensor-based lighting systems, and digital information signage. According to the government, these parks will strengthen urban community bonds by hosting cultural activities, social gatherings, and organised programmes, while also enhancing urban ecology through increased green cover, biodiversity promotion, and improved microclimatic conditions.

The Namo Gaurav Park initiative is designed to integrate water conservation, sustainable infrastructure, and climate-resilient planning, aiming to improve the overall quality of urban life in municipal corporation areas across Gujarat. The project reflects the state government’s commitment to combining modern recreational amenities with environmental sustainability for its rapidly growing urban populations.
