Reviving Legacy: L-G Sinha Celebrates Maharaja Ranbir Singh’s Vision for J&K

L-G Manoj Sinha honours Maharaja Ranbir Singh, unveils his bust, and renames Jammu Sanskrit University campus.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday paid tribute to Maharaja Ranbir Singh, highlighting his vision for building a vibrant culture and a thriving, robust Jammu and Kashmir. The remarks were made during the unveiling of the Maharaja’s bust at the Central Sanskrit University in Kot Balwal and the renaming of the campus as Shri Maharaja Ranbir Singh Campus.

Speaking at the ceremony, L-G Sinha said the nation owes Maharaja Ranbir Singh a profound debt for his reforms, which shaped the social, cultural, and intellectual landscape of the region. “Maharaja Ranbir Singh saw Jammu and Kashmir as a living entity, where culture breathed life and reforms channeled energy,” he said, adding that the Maharaja’s legacy extends beyond governance to intellectual and spiritual enrichment.

Sinha emphasised that Maharaja Ranbir Singh’s contributions left Jammu and Kashmir structurally, materially, and culturally enriched. “He bestowed a new vision, illuminated the region with knowledge, adorned it with cultural abundance, and left a legacy for generations,” he said, noting that the renaming of the campus reinforces the enduring influence of his ideals even 150 years later.

Addressing the youth, the L-G urged them to embrace Maharaja Ranbir Singh’s humane and expansive values to contribute to nation-building. He called for a society that balances technological advancement with human sensitivity and urged the young generation to strengthen both India’s and global intellectual and moral consciousness.

Sinha also underlined the importance of nurturing education that blends scientific knowledge with cultural wisdom, referencing historical figures such as Brahmagupta and Buddha. He assured financial support for establishing Gurukuls, Sanskrit Pathshalas, and Ved Pathshalas in the region to promote education rooted in India’s cultural heritage.

The ceremony was attended by former Union Minister Karan Singh, Padma Shri Vishwamurti Shastri, Vice-Chancellor Shrinivasa Varakhedi, officials from Sanskrit universities, faculty members, and a large gathering of students and citizens, highlighting broad public engagement in commemorating the Maharaja’s enduring legacy.
