Revanth Reddy Urges Immediate Parliament Session On Women’s Reservation Bill
Telangana CM seeks urgent Parliament session for women’s reservation bill.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday called upon the Central government to convene a special session of Parliament to urgently pass the long-pending 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, intensifying the political debate around the implementation of the women’s quota bill.
Speaking at an event in Hyderabad marking the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister said that the INDIA bloc was ready to extend full support to the women’s reservation legislation. He urged that the bill should not be delayed further or politicised, and instead be enacted in the interest of gender equality and democratic representation.
Revanth Reddy also criticised the Union government’s approach, alleging that linking the implementation of women’s reservation to the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies had created unnecessary hurdles. He reiterated that the legislation should be passed through an immediate special session of Parliament without procedural delays, arguing that women’s political empowerment should remain a national priority.

Paying tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, the Chief Minister credited the former Prime Minister with pioneering initiatives for women’s empowerment, including the introduction of reservations in local bodies. He described Gandhi as a visionary leader who laid the foundation for India’s technological growth and economic reforms, noting his contributions to the liberalisation era and the expansion of information technology in the country.
The Chief Minister further said that his government in Telangana was guided by the ideals of Rajiv Gandhi, particularly in advancing women’s empowerment and inclusive development. He also referred to the political legacy of the Gandhi family, stating that their contributions would be remembered as long as Telangana exists, and reiterated the state’s continued alignment with their vision.
As part of the commemorations, Revanth Reddy garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi near the State Secretariat in Hyderabad, with state ministers and senior Congress leaders also participating in the event. The remarks come amid renewed national discussion on women’s reservation and its legislative timeline, as political parties continue to differ over the implementation framework.
