Residents Serve Eviction Notice to MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Amid Ongoing Assault Probe
Palakkad residents demand eviction amid relentless police raids in rape case scandal.
In a decisive move reflecting mounting frustration among co-residents, the association of Builtech Summit Apartments in Kunnathurmedu has served a formal eviction notice to controversial Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, mandating that he completely vacate his rented flat by December 25, citing intolerable disturbances stemming from ongoing police investigations into serious sexual assault allegations.
The resolution was unanimously adopted during a recent general body meeting of the residents’ association, where occupants expressed exasperation over the constant media glare, frequent police visits, and overall disruption to peaceful living since the flat became embroiled in the high-profile criminal case. The notice has been handed to the MLA’s assistants, and reliable sources confirm that Mamkootathil has accepted the directive without contest, with the process of shifting his belongings already underway.
Initially occupied by Mamkootathil during the intense Palakkad Assembly by-election campaign — when the premises buzzed with jubilant gatherings of Congress leaders, workers, and family members celebrating his victory — the apartment transformed into a focal point of controversy following the surfacing of grave sexual assault complaints in August. From November 30 onwards, the complex endured repeated intrusions by the Special Investigation Team, including extensive searches, evidence collection, and verification of CCTV systems.

A particularly alarming discovery during one police operation was the deliberate deletion of CCTV footage capturing Mamkootathil’s last entry into the flat, leading investigators to interrogate the building’s maintenance technician and raising suspicions of evidence tampering. The MLA’s sudden re-emergence on Thursday after 15 days in hiding — timed strategically to vote late in the afternoon at St. Sebastian’s Senior Basic School polling booth, reportedly on instructions from Congress high command to minimise electoral damage — only intensified scrutiny on the location.
Facing an imminent SIT summons for December 15 and with the state government aggressively challenging his anticipatory bail in the Kerala High Court, Mamkootathil’s future remains precarious. Expelled by the Congress party following the registration of the case based on a November 27 complaint to the Chief Minister, yet greeted with bouquets by certain local youth leaders upon resurfacing, the eviction notice represents the latest humiliation in a rapidly escalating crisis that has gripped Kerala politics.
