Rescue Ops Underway After 4-Year-Old Falls Into 220-Foot Borewell In Ambala

A four-year-old boy fell into a 220-foot-deep borewell in Haryana’s Ambala district on Tuesday morning, triggering a large-scale rescue operation involving multiple emergency response agencies. The child, identified as Nirvair Singh, reportedly slipped into the uncovered borewell while playing in a field in Dhanaura village.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 7 am when the boy had accompanied his father to the fields to deliver food to his grandfather. While the father was engaged nearby, the child was playing in the area and accidentally fell into the open borewell. Family members immediately alerted the village sarpanch and local police, following which emergency services were mobilised.

Ambala Deputy Commissioner Ajay Tomar, along with other senior administrative officials, reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Given the depth of the borewell, authorities called in specialised rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Indian Army, to assist in the operation.

Officials said the child is believed to be trapped at a depth of approximately 220 feet. Rescue teams are using advanced equipment and technical methods to safely extract him. Authorities have cordoned off the surrounding area to ensure safety and to prevent crowding, which could obstruct ongoing rescue efforts.

Ambala DC Ajay Tomar confirmed that the rescue operation is being carried out on a priority basis and that all available resources have been deployed. He also stated that action will be taken against the owner of the borewell for negligence in leaving it uncovered. Meanwhile, the child’s family remains at the site, anxiously awaiting updates as rescue operations continue.
