Remembering Vajpayee: PM Modi Pays Tribute on Former PM’s Death Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary, remembering him as an extraordinary statesman with a remarkable vision who dedicated his life to the service of the nation. Vajpayee, one of the most prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, died on August 16, 2018, in New Delhi.

In a post on X, Modi remembered Vajpayee on his death anniversary and highlighted his contribution to the country. The prime minister described the former leader as a statesman whose vision and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on India's political landscape.

Modi also noted that Vajpayee's words and efforts continued to inspire generations. He credited the former prime minister's leadership with strengthening the country and emphasised the enduring influence of his approach to governance and national development.

Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He became the first BJP leader to serve as prime minister of India and held the position across multiple terms, including a full five-year term from 1999 to 2004.

The former prime minister was widely associated with an emphasis on governance, public welfare and national development. His political career spanned several decades, during which he served in Parliament and held key positions in the Union government before becoming prime minister.

Modi also noted that Vajpayee's focus on good governance and public welfare would continue to guide efforts in public service. His death anniversary is observed each year as an occasion to remember his political contributions, leadership and long association with India's public life.
