Rekha Gupta Outlines Plan To Promote Delhi’s Spiritual, Architectural Tourism
Rekha Gupta promotes Delhi’s spiritual and architectural heritage.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced plans to promote the national capital as a major spiritual, heritage and architectural tourism destination, moving beyond its traditional image centred on landmarks such as the Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb.
Speaking at the ‘Spiritual and Heritage Tourism Conclave-2026’ at Akshardham Temple on Tuesday, Gupta highlighted Delhi’s diverse religious and cultural heritage. She noted that the city is home to prominent temples, gurdwaras, churches, mosques, as well as Buddhist and Jain sites, offering visitors a wide range of spiritual and architectural experiences.
Held on the theme ‘Delhi: The Capital of Spirituality, Heritage and Experiences’, the conclave aimed to showcase the capital’s cultural, historical and spiritual heritage to visitors from India and abroad. Gupta outlined the government’s vision of transforming Delhi from a ‘Transit City’ into a ‘Destination City’ where tourists stay longer and explore attractions beyond the most prominent monuments.

The Chief Minister also launched four spiritual and heritage tourism circuits designed to bring together religious, cultural, historical and architectural sites across different parts of Delhi. The circuits are intended to offer visitors a more integrated travel experience and encourage them to explore the capital’s diverse heritage rather than limiting their visits to a handful of well-known attractions. Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was also present at the event.
Gupta highlighted Delhi’s cultural diversity, describing the capital as a reflection of India’s unity in diversity. She pointed to the presence of communities from across the country and the celebration of festivals and traditions including Gujarat’s Garba, Maharashtra’s Ganesh Chaturthi and Assam’s Bihu, alongside cultural traditions from southern and northern India.
The government’s broader objective, Gupta noted, is to create a tourism experience combining spirituality, history, architecture, cuisine, folk traditions and diverse faiths. Encouraging visitors to extend their stay could also generate employment and economic opportunities for hotels, restaurants, tour operators, local guides, artists, artisans and small entrepreneurs across Delhi.
