Reckless and Will Not MAGA! China Criticizes $1 Trillion US Defence Budget
China Condemns U.S. for $1 Trillion Defense Budget, Warns of Global Harm
China’s Ministry of National Defence sharply criticized the United States on Wednesday for its proposed $1 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2026, labeling it a reckless escalation that “will not make America great again.”
Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang warned that the massive spending would bring “painful disasters” to both Americans and the global community, accusing the U.S. of a “bellicose nature” and a belief in “might makes right.”
The rebuke follows reports of the U.S. defense budget hitting a record high, dwarfing China’s $249 billion allocation for 2025, which rose by 7.2% ($17 billion) from last year, making it the world’s second-largest military spender.

Zhang, quoted by Xinhua, criticized the U.S. for funneling “ill-gotten wealth” into weapons manufacturing while burdened by heavy debt, contrasting it with China’s focus on regional stability.
The comments come amid heightened U.S.-China tensions, fueled by trade tariffs and military posturing in the Indo-Pacific.
The U.S. defends its budget as necessary to counter threats from China, Russia, and others, citing Beijing’s naval buildup and Taiwan exercises. Zhang’s remarks underscore Beijing’s narrative of U.S. aggression, amplifying calls for diplomatic de-escalation as global economic stakes rise.
