Rare 5.2-Kg Baby Born in Jabalpur Hospital, Doctors Amazed

A rare 5.2-kg baby is born in Jabalpur, surprising doctors.

A woman gave birth to a remarkably heavy baby boy weighing 5.2 kg via caesarean section at the government-run Rani Durgawati Hospital in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on September 3, 2025. Dr. Bhavana Mishra, unit head gynaecologist, described the birth as “rare,” noting it was the heaviest infant she had encountered in years. The baby, born to Shubhangi, wife of Anand Chouksey from the Ranjhi area, is under observation due to potential health risks associated with such high birth weight.

Dr. Mishra explained that newborns of this size, significantly exceeding the average weight of 2.8–3.2 kg for full-term male infants, are prone to fluctuating blood sugar levels and congenital anomalies. The infant has been admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), where paediatricians are closely monitoring his condition, particularly his blood sugar levels. Despite these concerns, the baby is reported to be in stable condition.

The doctor attributed the increasing birth weights to improved maternal nutrition, lifestyle, and access to better medical care. This extraordinary birth has drawn attention to advancements in healthcare while highlighting the medical challenges associated with unusually large newborns, which require specialized attention to ensure their well-being.
