Ranchi Government Schools Get a Makeover Under PM SHRI Scheme

The PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme is bringing a revolutionary change to government schools in Ranchi, Jharkhand, as part of the central government’s effort to provide high-quality education to students nationwide. The scheme aims to transform selected schools into modern, smart, and model institutions with advanced learning facilities.
Under the initiative, schools now feature smart classrooms, modern laboratories, digital boards, improved libraries, clean toilets, and safe premises, giving students a more engaging and secure learning environment. Teachers are also receiving training in modern teaching methods and digital tools, ensuring that students receive education aligned with the latest pedagogical standards.
The PM SHRI scheme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), promoting creative thinking, skill development, digital learning, and self-reliance among students. Schools under the program focus on inclusive education and aim to make every student feel welcome, safe, and supported while exploring diverse learning opportunities.

At PM SHRI Azad High School in Karbala Chowk, Ranchi, located in a minority-populated area, students report significant improvements in attendance, engagement, and self-confidence. Class 10 student Aslan Alam shared that smart classrooms, modern labs, digital boards, and subject-specific teachers have made him better prepared for board exams.
Teachers have also noted remarkable changes. Sitamani, a teacher at the school, said the infrastructure and learning environment have improved drastically since its inclusion under the PM SHRI scheme. Principal Mohd Kurban Ali highlighted that the program, a collaborative effort between the central and state governments, is raising government schools to the standard of private institutions.
With over 14,500 schools across India targeted under PM SHRI, the scheme seeks to nurture students into engaged, productive, and responsible citizens. By modernizing infrastructure and teaching methods, the initiative is empowering underprivileged and middle-class children, giving them access to quality education and new opportunities for the future.
