Ramalinga Reddy Optimistic as Congress Discusses Karnataka Cabinet Resignation Issue
Karnataka minister expects clarity as Congress leadership discusses resignation issue.
Karnataka Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday said he remains optimistic that ongoing discussions within the state Congress leadership will resolve the confusion surrounding his resignation decision. He noted that his resignation had not yet been formally accepted and expressed confidence that a final clarity would emerge by the end of the day.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Koramangala, Bengaluru, Reddy said senior party leaders had already stepped in to address the matter. He confirmed that AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala had spoken to him, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had also held discussions to resolve the issue amicably.
The minister said multiple rounds of consultations were underway within the party leadership, with further meetings expected between Shivakumar and Surjewala to take a final decision. He added that he was waiting for the leadership’s response and would abide by whatever conclusion is reached. Reddy also indicated that he had been informed that his resignation may not be accepted.

Clarifying his position, Reddy said there was no change in his stance but emphasised that he was awaiting the outcome of internal deliberations. He stated that he had briefed senior leaders on all developments and remained in constant communication with them as discussions continued to find a resolution.
Addressing speculation over portfolio allocation, Reddy said he had not specifically demanded the Bengaluru Development portfolio and acknowledged limited familiarity with his current irrigation department responsibilities. He further stated that his induction into the Cabinet had always been based on party decisions rather than personal lobbying or preference.
Reddy also recalled that he had initially announced his resignation citing dissatisfaction over portfolio assurances but maintained that he remained hopeful the ongoing negotiations would bring clarity soon. Expressing confidence in the leadership process, he said he expected the confusion to be resolved shortly as senior Congress leaders worked to settle the matter internally.
