Ram Janmabhoomi Stalwart Ram Vilas Vedanti Passes Away at 67

Ram Janmabhoomi movement leader and former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti dies at 67 in Rewa.

Ram Vilas Das Vedanti, a key figure in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and former BJP MP from Pratapgarh, passed away at the age of 67 on Monday in a hospital in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He had been admitted after his health deteriorated while narrating Ram Katha, a series of stories about Lord Rama. His mortal remains are to be brought to Ayodhya for last rites with full religious rituals.

Vedanti dedicated his life to the cause of Sanatana Dharma and was a driving force behind the Ram Temple movement. Associated with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, he played a central role in mobilizing nationwide support for the construction of the temple, a struggle that culminated in the consecration of the Ram Temple in 2024.

He was a controversial yet influential figure, openly admitting his role in the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. While the event sparked national debate and legal proceedings, Vedanti remained a revered figure among devotees of Lord Rama, who considered him a hero for his unwavering commitment to the cause.

Political leaders and religious figures have widely mourned his passing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described his death as an “irreparable loss” to the spiritual world and Sanatan culture, praising Vedanti’s lifelong service to religion, society, and nation. Followers remember him for his dedication, spiritual guidance, and relentless pursuit of the Ram Temple dream.

Even in his final days, Vedanti remained active in religious discourse, emphasizing devotion, sacrifice, and service. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire political and religious circles across India.
