Rajnath Singh Launches ₹1,800 Crore Rail Coach Factory in Raisen
Massive rail hub to transform MP
On August 10, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the BRAHMA Project (BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing) in Umaria village, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step toward bolstering India’s rail infrastructure. The ₹1,800 crore facility, spearheaded by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), spans 148 acres near Bhopal and will manufacture Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and metro rail coaches, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the project as a “proud moment” for Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing its potential to position the state on the national railway manufacturing map. The plant, expected to produce 125–200 coaches annually by 2026 and scale up to 1,100 by 2030, will create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting districts like Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, and Bhopal.
The facility, strategically located near NH-86 and the Delhi-Mumbai Freight Corridor, will support Indian Railways’ goal of deploying 500 Vande Bharat trains by 2030 and meet metro coach demands in tier-2 cities. It will also foster ancillary industries, with over 200 MSMEs expected to supply components like bogies and interiors. A rail coach technology institute is planned to enhance skill development.
