Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Unnat Krishi Mela In Raisen, Pushes Tech-Driven Farming Agenda
Rajnath Singh inaugurates three-day agriculture fair in Raisen promoting modern farming and farmer income growth.
The three-day “Unnat Krishi Mela” began on Saturday in Raisen district, bringing together policymakers, scientists, farmers, and agri-industry stakeholders under a Central government initiative aimed at promoting technology-driven and sustainable agricultural practices across India. The event was formally inaugurated at Dussehra Maidan.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The programme began with the lighting of lamps, followed by a mass singing of the national song “Vande Mataram,” marking the formal commencement of the three-day agriculture-focused gathering.
The event, scheduled from April 11 to April 13, is designed to serve as a platform for connecting “lab to field” innovations and strengthening the agricultural value chain from seed production to market access. Officials said the initiative aims to improve productivity, enhance farmers’ incomes, and encourage long-term planning through the adoption of modern farming technologies.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who represents the region politically, described the mela as more than a traditional fair, calling it a “school of agriculture.” He said it features around 20 thematic sessions covering diverse agricultural issues, along with live demonstrations intended to help farmers understand and adopt new techniques.
The exhibition spans hundreds of stalls showcasing improved seed varieties, fertilizers, irrigation systems, and advanced machinery such as super seeders, happy seeders, rotavators, and reaper-binders. Institutions including the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), agricultural universities, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras are also engaging directly with farmers, offering region-specific solutions and training.
The event will conclude on April 13 with the participation of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, during which a regional agricultural roadmap for Raisen and surrounding districts is expected to be unveiled. The plan is anticipated to focus on crop diversification, water conservation, improved market linkages, and long-term income enhancement strategies for farmers.
