Rajeswari Suve of Madurai Secures AIR 2 in UPSC CSE 2025

Tamil Nadu's Rajeswari Suve secures UPSC AIR 2 on her fifth attempt while serving as trainee deputy collector.

Rajeswari Suve has secured the second rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, marking a remarkable milestone in her journey from rural Tamil Nadu to the top ranks of one of India’s most competitive examinations. Currently serving as a trainee deputy collector in the Dindigul district after clearing the TNPSC Group 1 Examination, Rajeswari’s achievement reflects years of determination and disciplined preparation.

Hailing from Madurai, Rajeswari cracked the civil services examination in her fifth attempt, demonstrating perseverance in the face of repeated challenges. Her journey highlights the resilience required to succeed in the UPSC exam, which is widely considered among the toughest competitive examinations in the country. With her all-India rank 2 finish, she is now set to join the Indian Administrative Service, where she hopes to play a larger role in governance and public service.

Speaking about her motivation, Rajeswari said her decision to pursue the IAS stemmed from her desire to bring meaningful change through effective administration. Having already gained exposure to governance while training as a deputy collector, she said she witnessed firsthand how government welfare programmes can impact communities. According to her, the role of an IAS officer offers an even greater opportunity to ensure such initiatives reach people and improve lives on a wider scale.

Reflecting on her preparation strategy, Rajeswari emphasised the importance of discipline, self-confidence, and structured study plans. Instead of relying on numerous sources, she focused on a limited set of reliable study materials and consistently evaluated her progress through feedback and revision. She also stressed that effective time management played a critical role in her success, explaining that she followed a combination of micro-level weekly planning and macro-level monthly planning throughout her preparation.

Her preparation journey was supported not only by private coaching but also by the Tamil Nadu government’s Naan Mudhalvan Scheme, which provides financial assistance and guidance to students preparing for competitive examinations. The initiative aims to strengthen opportunities for youth across the state and help more candidates succeed in national-level examinations like the UPSC civil services test.

While Tamil Nadu once produced a large number of successful civil services candidates each year, the numbers have declined in recent times. Rajeswari believes the passion for public service among young aspirants in the state still remains strong. She credited her family and friends for supporting her through the long preparation process and said she is willing to serve in any department where she can contribute effectively, promising to give her best wherever she is posted.
