Rahul Gandhi’s Sabarimala Claim Challenged by PM Modi’s Public Speeches
Critics note PM Modi addressed Sabarimala in past public speeches.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s accusation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has remained silent on the Sabarimala Temple issue is facing pushback, as critics point to multiple public speeches where the Prime Minister directly addressed related concerns. Observers note that Gandhi’s claim appears to ignore a well-documented record of Modi’s comments on alleged irregularities at the temple.
At an election rally in Adoor, Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of selectively invoking religious themes, noting that the Prime Minister often references temples and faith but had reportedly failed to mention Sabarimala in a recent speech in Palakkad. Gandhi suggested that such selective attention indicated a potential convergence of interests between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).
However, critics argue that Gandhi’s remarks overlook multiple instances where PM Modi has raised the Sabarimala issue publicly, particularly regarding allegations of gold theft. In January 2026, the Prime Minister criticised the CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala for what he described as a lack of meaningful efforts to safeguard the religious traditions of the temple.

During the same speech, PM Modi highlighted reports of irregularities, including alleged gold theft from the deity’s shrine. He assured attendees that if a BJP government came to power in Kerala, a thorough investigation would be conducted and those found guilty would face legal consequences, describing it as “Modi’s guarantee.”
More recently, while addressing an NDA convention in Kochi, the Prime Minister reiterated these concerns. He accused the ruling LDF of being associated with “looting the gold” and also criticised the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) for alleged complicity in its misappropriation. These statements underscore the Prime Minister’s repeated engagement with the Sabarimala issue in public forums.
Observers caution that selectively referencing a single speech while ignoring others presents an incomplete picture. They note that PM Modi has, in fact, spoken multiple times about Sabarimala and related irregularities, challenging Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that the Prime Minister has remained silent on the matter.
