Rahul Gandhi To Address Election Rally In Malda On April 14 After 7 Years
Rahul Gandhi will address a major election rally in Malda on April 14.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Malda district on April 14, where he will address a public rally at Kalambagan Ground in Chanchal around noon, marking his first visit to the region in seven years and signalling a renewed push by the party in northern West Bengal.
The Congress, once a dominant political force in Malda, has witnessed a gradual decline in influence over the past several years. Gandhi’s upcoming visit is being viewed as an attempt to reconnect with traditional strongholds and rebuild the party’s grassroots presence in a politically competitive landscape that has since evolved significantly.
Ahead of the rally, local Congress leaders and police officials jointly inspected the venue on Sunday to review security arrangements and logistical preparations. Party organisers have projected a large turnout, estimating that more than one lakh people could attend the gathering, which is being positioned as a major show of strength in the region.

During the visit, Gandhi is expected to campaign for several party candidates across key constituencies, including Malatipur, Chanchal, Harishchandrapur, and Ratua. He is also scheduled to address another public meeting in Sujapur, a constituency with historical ties to senior Congress leadership in the region, further expanding the party’s outreach efforts across Malda district.
Preparations for the event are underway on a large scale, including ground clearance work and the construction of a temporary helipad to facilitate Gandhi’s arrival. Party officials have expressed confidence that his familiarity with the region and its political history will help draw significant public participation and energise local cadres ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
Political observers say the visit is a crucial test for the Congress as it contests elections independently in West Bengal, without its earlier alliances. The rally is being closely watched as an indicator of whether the party can regain relevance in districts like Malda, where shifting political loyalties have reshaped the electoral landscape in recent years.
