Rahul Gandhi Targets PM Modi’s Employment Promise

Congress leader calls PM’s scheme empty rhetoric.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the ₹1 lakh crore PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, labeling it as recycled rhetoric that fails to deliver meaningful opportunities for India’s youth. In a scathing post on X, Gandhi accused Modi of reusing “the same rehearsed figures” from last year’s ₹1 lakh crore internship promise, which he claimed resulted in fewer than 10,000 internships due to inadequate stipends that 90% of youth rejected.

“₹1 lakh crore rhetoric - Season 2! Modi ji has no new ideas left. From this government, the youth will get not jobs, but only rhetoric,” Gandhi wrote, attaching a government response to his parliamentary question about the PM Internship Scheme, which highlighted its limited impact.

Speaking from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi unveiled the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, aimed at creating employment opportunities for approximately 3.5 crore youth. Under the scheme, newly employed youth in the private sector will receive ₹15,000, and companies generating jobs will be incentivized. “This is very good news for the youth of my country,” Modi said, emphasizing the scheme’s role in skill development, self-employment, and internships in emerging sectors.

However, Gandhi’s critique underscores skepticism about the scheme’s effectiveness, pointing to the government’s track record. He argued that the low stipends and limited uptake of last year’s internship program reflect a lack of innovation and commitment to addressing youth unemployment. The Congress leader’s remarks resonate with growing concerns among young Indians facing a competitive job market and economic challenges.

As the debate intensifies, the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana faces scrutiny over its ability to deliver on its ambitious promises. With India’s youth seeking tangible opportunities, the government’s latest initiative will need to overcome past shortcomings to gain credibility and make a meaningful impact.
