Rahul Gandhi Faces Court in Defamation Showdown
Congress leader to appear over 2018 Amit Shah remarks.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to appear before the MP-MLA Court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, to address a defamation case stemming from alleged remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a 2018 rally. The case, filed by Pratap Kumar, claims Gandhi’s statements were intentionally made to tarnish Shah’s reputation.
Security has been tightened in Chaibasa, with the West Singhbhum district administration preparing for Gandhi’s arrival. Sub-Divisional Officer Sandeep Anurag Topno confirmed a helipad at Tata College Ground for Gandhi’s 10 a.m. landing, with his court appearance scheduled for 10:40 a.m., after which he will return to Ranchi.
Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had challenged the court’s June 26 appearance order in the Jharkhand High Court, securing a new date for August 6. His visit follows a trip to Jharkhand on August 5 to attend the funeral of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren in Nemra, Ramgarh district.
Inclement weather prevented Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge from flying, forcing them to travel by road to console Hemant Soren. In a post on X, Gandhi honored Shibu Soren as a defender of tribal identity and justice, vowing to keep his legacy alive.
