Rahul Gandhi Denies Defamation in Savarkar Case

Congress leader faces trial in Pune

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pleaded not guilty in a defamation case over his remarks on Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar during a hearing in a Pune court on Friday. The case, filed by Satyaki Savarkar, V D Savarkar’s grandnephew, was heard by Judicial Magistrate (First Class) and Special Judge (MP/MLA court) Amol Sriram Shinde.

Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was not present in court. His lawyer, Milind Pawar, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf after the charges were read out. Advocate Sangram Kolhatkar, representing Satyaki Savarkar, stated that with the plea recording phase concluded, the trial will now move forward.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 24, 2025, as the case continues to draw attention.
