Rahul Demands EC Hand Over Vote Scam Evidence To CID

Congress leader accuses EC of inaction on Aland vote deletion.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday, alleging it only acted to curb "vote theft" after he exposed the issue. Gandhi demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar provide evidence to the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the alleged deletion of votes in the Aland assembly constituency.

In a fiery post on X, Gandhi claimed, "Gyanesh ji, we caught the theft, and only then did you put a lock on it. Now, we’ll catch the thieves too. When will you hand over the evidence to the CID?" His remarks follow reports that the EC introduced an Aadhaar-based 'e-sign' verification system for voter list changes, a move Gandhi suggests was prompted by his accusations.

The controversy stems from Gandhi’s earlier claims that votes in Aland were targeted for deletion through illicit software. The Karnataka CID has since registered an FIR and is investigating what Gandhi calls a "vote-theft" scandal. At a recent press conference, he alleged that the CID’s intervention thwarted a major electoral fraud. Gandhi urged the EC to disclose details of those involved, enabling the CID to identify the culprits.

EC officials, however, refuted Gandhi’s narrative, insisting the new verification system was not a response to the Aland issue but part of routine upgrades. The standoff has sparked a heated debate, with Gandhi accusing the EC of negligence and the Commission defending its actions. As the CID probe continues, all eyes are on whether the EC will comply with Gandhi’s demand for transparency.
