Rafale Fighter Jets Were True Heroes in Operation Sindoor: IAF Vice Chief
The Vice Chief of Air Staff calls Rafale jets the hero of Operation Sindoor.
Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor on Wednesday described the Rafale fighter jet as the “hero” of Operation Sindoor, highlighting its pivotal role in the Indian Air Force’s response to last year’s Pahalgam terror attack. He also reiterated the force’s intent to induct more Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) to strengthen its operational capabilities.
Addressing a gathering at the unveiling ceremony of Exercise Vayu Shakti 2026, Air Marshal Kapoor said India had demonstrated its resolve during Operation Sindoor and would continue to respond firmly to acts of terror. “Rafale was the hero during Operation Sindoor,” he said, underlining the aircraft’s advanced combat capabilities and precision strike performance.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 individuals. The operation was presented as a calibrated military response aimed at targeting terror infrastructure. According to the Vice Chief, elements and glimpses of the operation will be showcased to the public during Exercise Vayu Shakti in Jaisalmer.

Emphasising preparedness, Air Marshal Kapoor said that every act of terror would be met with a decisive response. He noted that the Indian Air Force continues to modernise its fleet and enhance combat readiness amid evolving security challenges.
The Rafale jets, inducted into the IAF beginning in 2020, are equipped with advanced avionics, air-to-air and air-to-ground weapon systems, and long-range precision strike capabilities. Their performance during Operation Sindoor, according to the vice chief, reinforced the importance of continued investment in next-generation fighter platforms as part of India’s broader defence modernisation strategy.
