Radio Sangam, First Community Radio Station Along LoC, Comes Up in Rajouri
India’s first LoC community radio station in Rajouri aims to counter propaganda and amplify border-area voices.
India's first community radio station along the Line of Control (LoC), named "Radio Sangam," was inaugurated in Keri village of Rajouri district on January 3, 2026. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Indian Army, the civil administration, and local residents, aimed at strengthening information outreach, promoting social awareness, and countering misinformation in border areas. Located just one kilometer from the LoC, the station's broadcasts can be received not only in nearby villages but also in some areas across the Line of Control, making it a strategic tool for community engagement and narrative building.
The inauguration was led by Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri Abhishek Sharma in the presence of civil society members, district officers, and local villagers. Addressing the gathering, Sharma highlighted the station's role in amplifying local voices, fostering public participation, and bridging the gap between the administration and border residents. He emphasized that Radio Sangam would serve as a credible platform for sharing authentic information, raising awareness on social issues, and countering hostile propaganda often broadcast from across the border.
The launch of Radio Sangam comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and development in remote and sensitive border regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Community radio stations are known for their ability to address local needs, broadcast in regional languages, and empower grassroots participation. By involving locals in its operations, the station aims to build trust and ensure content reflects the real concerns and aspirations of border communities. The strategic location of Keri village enables the station to reach audiences that are often underserved by mainstream media.

This development is seen as a significant step in promoting positive narratives, cultural integration, and national unity in one of India's most strategically important yet vulnerable border areas. Radio Sangam is expected to broadcast programs on education, health, agriculture, local culture, and government schemes, while also providing a platform for dialogue and community interaction. As the station begins regular transmissions, it is poised to play a key role in strengthening the social fabric and information ecosystem along the LoC.
