Punjab Speeds Up Distribution of 33 Lakh Sehat Yojana Cards

The Punjab government has accelerated the distribution of Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana cards across the State, with approximately 33 lakh cards being made available to eligible beneficiaries. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that more residents receive access to the health scheme without delays. Health authorities have begun coordinating with district administrations and field-level workers to speed up the process and improve coverage among beneficiaries who have already been identified under the programme.

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said around 31 lakh cards had already reached various districts, while another two lakh cards were expected to arrive shortly. The government has identified nearly 2,008 villages and wards where at least 400 beneficiaries are eligible to receive the cards. Special distribution camps will be organised at these locations to ensure that beneficiaries can collect their cards locally without having to travel long distances or visit government offices repeatedly.

The camp-based distribution process will begin after the formal launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana card distribution programme under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The State government has set a target of completing card distribution at the identified camps within one week of the launch. Beneficiaries will be informed about the schedule and location of the camps in advance so that they can make the necessary arrangements to attend and collect their cards.

Field-level health workers will play a key role in mobilising beneficiaries and ensuring that the camps function smoothly. ASHA workers, ASHA facilitators, Sehat Mitras and other frontline personnel will contact eligible residents, spread awareness about the distribution exercise and encourage them to participate. Their involvement is expected to help the administration reach beneficiaries in rural areas and communities where awareness about the scheme or access to official information may be limited.

In villages and wards where fewer than 400 beneficiaries are eligible, the government will continue with the existing door-to-door distribution system. Cards that remain undelivered after the special camps will also be taken to beneficiaries’ homes by ASHA workers and facilitators. To strengthen this last-mile delivery mechanism, ASHA workers will receive an incentive of ₹10 for every card delivered, while ASHA facilitators will be paid ₹2 per card. Officials will maintain delivery records and process the incentive claims through the appropriate health authorities.

The remaining cards are expected to be distributed through the door-to-door system within two weeks after the camp-based exercise is completed. The State Health Agency has supplied districts with the cards and information, education and communication material, including card jackets, envelopes and brochures. District officials have been instructed to monitor the exercise closely, follow prescribed timelines and adhere to standard operating procedures to ensure that the distribution is completed efficiently and that eligible beneficiaries are not left out of the scheme.
