Punjab Principals Get Global Exposure to Enhance Students’ Learning Opportunities

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann sends 30 school principals to Singapore for global training programme.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday flagged off the eighth batch of 30 government school principals to Singapore for an international training programme aimed at strengthening the state’s public education system. The week-long training, scheduled from March 8 to March 14 at the Principal Academy in Singapore, is designed to expose educators to global teaching practices and leadership strategies.

In a post on X, Mann said he met the principals before their departure and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity. He noted that the initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to provide world-class education to children in Punjab by equipping teachers and school leaders with modern teaching methods and international exposure.

According to the chief minister, a total of 234 principals and education officers have been sent to Singapore in eight batches so far under the programme. He said the participants are selected through a transparent process, followed by verification conducted by District Education Officers. After returning, the principals are expected to share the knowledge and practices they learn with fellow teachers and students across the state’s government schools.

Mann also highlighted improvements in the state’s education sector, noting that Punjab ranked first in the National Achievement Survey conducted by the Government of India, surpassing even Kerala. He added that around 300 students from Schools of Eminence and other government institutions have qualified for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET, reflecting the impact of ongoing reforms in the education system.

Beyond education, the chief minister addressed several policy and political issues. He said the state government would strongly oppose the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, arguing that electricity, health, and education fall under the jurisdiction of states. Mann also announced that a ₹3,200 crore plant by Tata Steel, set to begin operations on March 20, would boost economic activity and create employment opportunities for young people in the state.

Mann further revealed that around 385 residents of Punjab are currently stranded in several Middle Eastern countries amid tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. He said the state government is in regular contact with the Centre to ensure their safe return. The event was also attended by Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and other officials.
