Prosenjit Chatterjee Conferred Padma Shri At Grand Rashtrapati Bhavan Ceremony
Prosenjit Chatterjee honoured with Padma Shri for contribution to Indian cinema.
Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was conferred the Padma Shri award by President Droupadi Murmu during the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday. The honour recognises his significant contribution to Indian cinema, particularly his decades-long work in Bengali films, marking one of the highest civilian recognitions in the country.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior dignitaries. Prosenjit received the award amid applause from attendees, wearing a traditional golden kurta set for the occasion. Officials noted that the Padma Awards are among India’s most prestigious civilian honours, presented annually to individuals for excellence in various fields.
The awards were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs ahead of Republic Day 2026, recognising contributions across disciplines such as art, education, sports, public service, and culture. Prosenjit was listed among several notable personalities selected for their distinguished achievements and long-standing impact in their respective fields.

With a career spanning over four decades, Prosenjit has acted in more than 200 films and remains one of the most prominent figures in the Bengali film industry. His body of work includes critically acclaimed titles such as Chokher Bali, Shob Charitro Kalponik, Moner Manush, and Jaatishwar, among others, which have contributed to shaping contemporary Bengali cinema.
Apart from regional cinema, he has also appeared in Hindi films like Shanghai, Traffic, and Maalik, and featured in popular web series including Jubilee and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. His versatility across platforms has helped him maintain a strong presence in both mainstream and parallel cinema over the years.
In a message shared earlier, the actor expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the award reflects the collective effort of directors, producers, co-actors, and technicians who contributed to his long career. He added that receiving the honour from the President of India was a deeply meaningful milestone in his professional journey.
