Probe Continues: Vijay Questioned Again As Karur Stampede Investigation Moves Forward
CBI summons TVK chief Vijay for third round of questioning in Karur stampede case.
Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has been summoned once again by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear in New Delhi on Tuesday for further questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case. This will mark his third round of interaction with the agency regarding the tragic incident.
The fresh summons comes amid speculation in Tamil Nadu’s political circles about potential alliance talks between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vijay’s party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed that the CBI is seeking additional details to strengthen its ongoing enquiry into the events surrounding the stampede.
The Karur tragedy occurred during a rally held by Vijay in September 2025, claiming several lives and leaving many others injured. The incident drew widespread criticism over crowd management and the adequacy of security arrangements at the event. Vijay had previously appeared before the CBI on January 12 and January 19, providing statements and documents related to the planning and organisation of the rally.

During his earlier interactions, Vijay reportedly pointed out that insufficient police deployment contributed significantly to the chaos. He highlighted that the arrangements made by authorities were inadequate given the scale of the gathering. Investigators also sought clarification on whether the police guidelines for public meetings and rallies had been properly followed.
As part of the ongoing probe, Vijay submitted relevant documents, including the application for rally permissions and other communications with local authorities. The CBI took over the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after the Supreme Court ordered a central enquiry, following a petition filed by the TVK seeking an impartial investigation.
Sources suggest that the upcoming questioning could be the final direct interaction between Vijay and the CBI, although investigators may continue examining other witnesses and evidence. The case remains a central focus of public and political attention in Tamil Nadu, highlighting ongoing concerns over event safety and administrative accountability.
