Priyanka Gandhi Tells PM Modi She’s Learning Malayalam During Tea Meet
Priyanka Gandhi reveals learning Malayalam during tea with PM.
A warm and light-hearted conversation unfolded between Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the customary tea hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday, December 20, 2025, marking the conclusion of the Parliament's Winter Session. The exchange highlighted Priyanka's efforts to connect with her Wayanad constituents and touched on international matters, showcasing a rare moment of bipartisan camaraderie.
Priyanka, representing Kerala's Wayanad constituency, shared with Modi that she is actively learning Malayalam to better communicate with local residents during her interactions. The discussion also veered toward the Prime Minister's recent diplomatic visit to Ethiopia as part of a three-nation African and Middle Eastern tour, where Modi countered common misconceptions by describing the country's impressive social and economic progress.
The gathering, a traditional post-session event attended by leaders from various parties, saw the Opposition's return after boycotting previous editions over perceived restrictions on debate time. Congress sources indicated that the decision to participate stemmed from party president Mallikarjun Kharge's directive, noting the Speaker's relatively fair handling of proceedings during this session compared to earlier ones.

In another jovial moment, Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav remarked on the brevity of the Winter Session, prompting Modi to respond humorously that it spared his throat from excessive shouting, eliciting laughter among attendees. RSP MP N K Premachandran echoed similar sentiments about the short duration, with Speaker Birla pointing out the ample speaking opportunities provided, while Priyanka praised Premachandran's parliamentary conduct as an example for newer members.
Prominent figures present included Congress leaders Manickam Tagore and Kumari Selja, NCP's Supriya Sule, DMK's A Raja, TDP's Ram Mohan Naidu, JD(U)'s Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and LJP's Chirag Paswan, reflecting cross-party engagement in the informal setting aimed at fostering dialogue beyond the House floor.
