Priyanka Gandhi Engages With Bihar Women, Holds First Public Rally in Motihari
Congress leader meets self-help group members and addresses gathering ahead of upcoming state elections.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Patna, Bihar, on Friday to engage with women running self-help groups (SHGs) and address a public rally in Motihari. Her visit, the first public appearance of the 52-year-old leader in the state, comes ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections later this year. Greeted warmly by Congress workers at Patna airport, Vadra’s itinerary underscores the party’s focus on women’s empowerment and grassroots mobilization in the politically significant state.
Vadra began her visit at Sadaqat Ashram, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, where she participated in the ‘Mahila Samvad’ event to interact with women involved in SHGs. These groups play a vital role in fostering economic independence among women in rural and semi-urban areas. Her engagement aimed to highlight Congress’s commitment to addressing women’s issues and supporting their economic initiatives, a key focus as the party seeks to strengthen its position in Bihar’s competitive political landscape.
Later, Vadra traveled approximately 120 km to Motihari for a public rally, marking her first such event in the state. The rally is part of Congress’s broader strategy to connect with voters ahead of the elections, emphasizing social and economic issues affecting women and marginalized communities.
Independent MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav), a Congress ally whose wife, Ranjeet Ranjan, is a Congress Rajya Sabha MP, welcomed Vadra at the airport, calling the visit a “historic occasion” and urging women to support parties prioritizing their welfare.

The visit coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address to Bihar’s women, launching the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana,’ which provided Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh women for livelihood activities. Vadra’s events, contrasted with the state government’s initiative, highlight the intensifying political focus on women voters as Bihar approaches its elections.
