Priyanka Chaturvedi Criticises Ex-Judge’s Comments On Bhopal Dowry Death Case
Priyanka Chaturvedi criticised a retired judge’s remarks in Bhopal dowry death case.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has criticised the Madhya Pradesh government and law enforcement authorities over their handling of an alleged dowry-related death case in Bhopal, while also condemning public remarks made by the deceased woman’s mother-in-law. The case involves the death of a 33-year-old woman who was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area earlier this month.
According to police and family allegations, the woman died on May 12, around five months after marrying a lawyer she had met through a dating application in 2024. Her family has claimed that she was subjected to repeated mental harassment, abuse, and dowry demands, and has alleged that the death was not a suicide but a case of murder. The husband of the deceased is currently absconding, while other members of the marital family are under scrutiny.
The controversy intensified after the victim’s mother-in-law reportedly made public statements to the media regarding the case. Priyanka Chaturvedi strongly objected to these remarks, accusing the accused family member of attempting to “smear” the reputation of the deceased woman while the investigation is still ongoing. She also questioned why a person named in the case was being allowed to publicly comment on a matter that is currently sub judice.

Chaturvedi further criticised the Madhya Pradesh government, alleging that the authorities were not taking adequate steps to prevent potential interference in the investigation. She argued that allowing accused individuals to make public statements could compromise the integrity of the probe and influence public perception of the case before legal conclusions are reached.
The case has drawn wider attention amid ongoing debates in India around dowry-related violence and women’s safety within marital homes. The incident has also sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders demanding stricter enforcement of laws related to dowry harassment and faster action in cases involving alleged domestic abuse and unnatural deaths.Police officials have stated that the investigation is underway and that all angles, including allegations of harassment and murder, are being examined. Further updates are expected as forensic reports and witness statements are reviewed in the coming days.
