President Murmu Holds Talks With Moldova President Sandu On Bilateral Cooperation
India and Moldova leaders discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
President Droupadi Murmu and Moldovan President Maia Sandu held bilateral discussions in Chisinau on Monday, reviewing the progress of India-Moldova relations and exploring ways to expand cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace during President Murmu’s first-ever State Visit to Moldova by an Indian President, marking a significant milestone in bilateral ties.
President Murmu was accorded a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Presidential Palace before the talks. Officials including Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Sibi George and other representatives from both sides were present during the meeting, where the two leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
The President’s Secretariat said the discussions covered the full spectrum of India-Moldova cooperation and reflected the growing friendship and mutual trust between the two nations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the talks as productive, stating that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to identifying new areas of collaboration and expanding bilateral engagement.

President Murmu arrived in Chisinau earlier in the day as part of her three-nation visit covering Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania. She was welcomed at Chisinau International Airport by Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, with officials highlighting the historic nature of the visit.
During her stay in Moldova, President Murmu is scheduled to meet Parliament President Igor Grosu and interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. She is also expected to address a Business Forum and engage with members of the Indian community residing in the country.
The MEA said India and Moldova share warm and friendly relations, with significant potential for cooperation in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology and education. The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral ties and strengthen collaboration between the two countries as President Murmu continues her three-nation diplomatic tour.
