President Murmu Heads To Army Training Command In Shimla Before Delhi Return

President Murmu visits Army Training Command before leaving Shimla.

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit the Army Training Command in Shimla on Friday before returning to New Delhi, marking the conclusion of her five-day summer stay at the presidential retreat in Mashobra. Her visit forms part of a series of official engagements held during her stay in Himachal Pradesh. During her time at Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra, the President reviewed various facilities available at the historic presidential residence and also interacted with arrangements made for public visitors. She also planted a Khumani sapling on the premises, continuing her emphasis on environmental awareness and green initiatives during official visits.

The President’s stay included participation in several official and ceremonial programmes across Shimla and nearby areas. On April 28, she attended a banquet hosted by Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta at Lok Bhavan in Shimla. She is also expected to address the convocation ceremony of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in Palampur, highlighting the importance of agricultural education and rural development.

Security arrangements were significantly tightened across Shimla and surrounding regions during her visit. Local authorities imposed temporary restrictions on aerial activities, including paragliding, for several hours ahead of key events to ensure safety. Enhanced deployment of security personnel was also seen at major venues visited by the President during her stay.

Rashtrapati Niwas at Mashobra, which serves as one of the President’s official retreats, has been open to the public since April 2023. To improve accessibility for tourists, a free bus service operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation connects Shimla’s Mall Road to Mashobra on select days. Officials say this initiative has increased public engagement with the historic site.

Built in 1850 in European architectural style by the then King of Koti, the Rashtrapati Niwas—earlier known as the Retreat Building—is one of the four presidential residences in India. The others include Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, Rashtrapati Nilayam in Telangana, and Rashtrapati Ashiana in Dehradun. The Shimla residence remains a significant heritage and administrative landmark, combining historical importance with modern presidential functions.
