President Murmu Addresses AIIMS Nagpur Convocation, Urges AI and Digital Health to Bridge Care Gap

President Murmu urges doctors to use technology for bridging India's urban-rural healthcare divide.

Droupadi Murmu has called for greater use of technology to bridge the persistent gap between urban and rural healthcare in India, emphasising that quality medical services must be accessible to all citizens. Addressing a convocation ceremony at AIIMS, Nagpur, the President highlighted the rapid transformation underway in the healthcare sector and stressed the need to harness innovation for inclusive growth.

She pointed out that advancements in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital health services, and medical research are driving unprecedented progress globally. According to her, adapting to these changes is essential for improving healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved regions where access to quality treatment remains limited.

Highlighting the role of doctors, President Murmu described medicine not just as a profession but as a service to humanity. She underscored the importance of empathy, stating that doctors not only treat illnesses but also provide emotional strength to patients and their families. Maintaining sensitivity and trust, she said, is crucial in strengthening the doctor-patient relationship.

The President also acknowledged the government’s efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure, noting that the establishment of new AIIMS institutions across the country has improved access to treatment and medical education. She praised AIIMS Nagpur for emerging as a leading centre for healthcare, research, and education within a short span of time.

Urging young medical graduates to embrace lifelong learning, she emphasised the importance of curiosity, innovation, and ethical practice in the medical field. While highlighting the role of technology, she also reminded them that compassion and integrity remain irreplaceable in patient care. Expressing confidence in the new generation of doctors, she said their contributions would play a vital role in building a healthier nation and achieving the vision of a developed India.
