President Droupadi Murmu’s Odisha Visit Sparks Excitement with Star-Studded Convocations and Awards!
President Murmu’s two-day Odisha tour promises grand convocations, honorary degrees, and a prestigious award ceremony.
President Droupadi Murmu will kick off a thrilling two-day visit to Odisha on Monday, packed with high-profile events, including convocation ceremonies at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, officials announced.
On Monday evening, the President will grace the fifth convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, celebrating the next generation of medical professionals. The following day, she’ll head to Cuttack for Ravenshaw University’s 13th annual convocation, where she’ll confer honorary degrees to distinguished figures for their remarkable contributions.
Among the honorees are nuclear physicist Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy, who will receive an Honoris Causa (D. Sc.) for his work in healthcare, food, and water security. Senior Parliamentarian Bhartruhari Mahatab and renowned conservationist Padmashree Sabarmatee will both be awarded Honoris Causa (D. Litt.) for their impactful contributions. Visually challenged social activist Bijay Kumar Rath, founder of Odisha’s first Braille Press, will also receive an Honoris Causa (D. Litt.).

President Murmu will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings at Ravenshaw Girls’ High School, a significant step toward enhancing educational infrastructure. She will also attend the birth anniversary celebration of Adikabi Sarala Das in Cuttack, presenting the prestigious Kalinga Ratna Award-2024.
The events will see prominent dignitaries, including Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in attendance.
Security is airtight, with the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police deploying 70 platoons and 300 officers to ensure a smooth visit. Ravenshaw University Vice Chancellor Professor Sanjay K Nayak highlighted the significance of honoring luminaries whose work has transformed society.
