Pratibha Singh Urges Swift Formation of Himachal Congress Units
Congress Faces Delay in Himachal Reorganization
Himachal Pradesh Congress president Pratibha Singh emphasized the urgent need to establish the party’s organizational units during a press interaction on Friday, highlighting growing frustration among party workers due to delays. The state Congress units were dissolved on November 6, 2024, by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leaving Pratibha Singh as the sole leader retaining her position as state chief.
Speaking to mediapersons in Shimla, Pratibha Singh stressed that the next state Congress president must be widely accepted by party workers across Himachal Pradesh. She advocated for a balanced leadership approach, urging the inclusion of both experienced leaders and young, dynamic members in key roles to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence. “I have requested Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to appoint dedicated and hardworking party workers to boards and corporations to bolster the organization,” she said.
Pratibha Singh, widow of six-time chief minister late Virbhadra Singh and mother of state minister Vikramaditya Singh, underscored her commitment to unifying the party. She noted that her late husband always prioritized strengthening the Congress, a principle she has followed by fostering inclusivity within the organization.

The urgency of restructuring was a key focus during a recent meeting in Delhi, chaired by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Discussions centered on expediting the appointment of a new state Congress president and forming party units at all levels to enhance organizational efficiency. Pratibha Singh highlighted that delays in restructuring have led to discontent among cadres, who are eager to contribute to the party’s revival in the state.
The Congress in Himachal Pradesh faces challenges in maintaining unity and momentum ahead of future elections. Pratibha Singh’s call for swift action reflects the need to rebuild a robust organizational framework to counter opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which remains a strong contender in the state. Political analysts suggest that timely appointments and a balanced leadership could help the Congress regain its foothold in Himachal’s competitive political landscape.
