#JUSTIN: Police Detain Two Minors In Murder of 13-Year-Old in Delhi
Two minors detained in Delhi boy murder case investigation
A 13-year-old boy reported missing from Bhati Mines in south Delhi was found dead, with police detaining two juveniles, both aged 16, in connection with his alleged murder, officials said. The case has triggered local outrage and prompted demands for a swift and transparent investigation. According to police, the victim, a Class 8 student at a government school, had gone out to play with acquaintances on Monday and did not return home. His parents, who work as daily wage labourers, subsequently filed a missing person complaint after searching for him. A kidnapping case was initially registered, which was later converted into a murder investigation after the body was recovered.
Investigators said the body was discovered on Tuesday in the Bhati Mines area, following which two 16-year-old boys known to the victim were apprehended. Police have alleged that the minors were involved in strangling the boy to death a day before the recovery of his body. The accused were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday and sent to an observation home, officials confirmed.
The incident sparked public anger in the locality, with residents staging a road blockade near the Sanjay Colony police post on Wednesday. Protesters demanded strict action and accountability from authorities, alleging delays in police response when the boy was first reported missing. The situation was later brought under control after senior officials intervened and assured a fair and speedy investigation. Ward councillor Sunder Tanwar described the incident as deeply disturbing, stating that it had shocked the local community. He urged authorities to ensure strict action against those responsible and to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has alleged lapses in police response, claiming that their missing complaint was not immediately registered when they first approached the Maidangarhi police station. A family member stated that they had gone to report the boy missing around 8 pm but were not assisted until several hours later, with search efforts beginning only the following morning.
Police have maintained that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined. Authorities are also reviewing the sequence of events leading up to the crime, including the victim’s last known movements and his interactions with the accused.
