PMO Staff Congratulate PM Modi On Longest-Serving Elected PM Milestone
PMO staff congratulate PM Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
Officials at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in consecutive terms. The acknowledgment came through an official post on X, highlighting the government’s recognition of the milestone achieved during his current tenure.
According to the PMO statement, senior officials including Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr P.K. Mishra and Principal Secretary-2 Shaktikanta Das welcomed the Prime Minister on the occasion. The post described his leadership over the past twelve years as being marked by stability, transparency, and a focus on governance reforms, inclusive development, and national progress.
Prime Minister Modi has now surpassed the record previously held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in terms of continuous service as an elected head of government. The comparison considers Nehru’s tenure from 1952 onwards, after India’s first general elections, excluding the interim government period between 1947 and 1952. The milestone places Modi at the top of India’s list of longest-serving elected Prime Ministers in uninterrupted terms.

The achievement follows his successive electoral victories in 2014, 2019, and 2024, marking a rare third consecutive term in office. While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi also served for more than 14 years, her tenure was non-continuous, making Modi the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in India’s parliamentary history.
Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet also adopted a resolution congratulating the Prime Minister, with ministers reportedly offering a standing ovation in recognition of the milestone. The resolution described the occasion as a reflection of India’s democratic strength, public trust, and participation in shaping governance outcomes over the years.
The statement further noted that the current administration is nearing 25 years of continuous leadership under Narendra Modi as head of government, combining his earlier tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat with his time as Prime Minister. The government also cited major infrastructure and policy initiatives undertaken during this period, including the Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, INS Vikrant, and several large-scale connectivity and transport projects across the country.
