PM Narendra Modi Highlights Risks To Poor, Migrants Amid West Asia Crisis, Urges State Action

PM Narendra Modi urges states to protect migrants, warning prolonged West Asia crisis may impact India.

Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged state governments to remain vigilant and establish dedicated monitoring systems for migrant workers and vulnerable populations, warning that the ongoing West Asia crisis could have prolonged and significant implications for the country.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted that the evolving situation in West Asia may present a major test for India in the coming months. He called for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states, stressing that cooperation would be essential to effectively manage the potential economic and social challenges arising from the crisis.

Emphasising the disproportionate impact of global disruptions on weaker sections, Modi said that migrant workers, labourers, and the poor are often the hardest hit during such periods. He urged state governments to ensure timely delivery of benefits under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and to proactively address the concerns of vulnerable communities by setting up special monitoring mechanisms.

The Prime Minister also raised concerns about the risks of black marketing and hoarding during times of uncertainty. He called on states to stay alert and respond swiftly to any such incidents, underlining the importance of maintaining supply chains and preventing exploitation in essential goods markets.

Calling for a unified national response, Modi invoked the spirit of “Team India,” urging governments across political lines to work together to sustain economic growth and implement reforms. He pointed to India’s coordinated response during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of effective crisis management achieved through collaboration between the Centre and states.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister cautioned that the current crisis is dynamic and may have long-term repercussions. He urged both governments and citizens to remain prepared and resilient, assuring that the Centre is actively monitoring developments and formulating strategies with public welfare as its top priority.
