PM Modi's Urgent Meeting with President Murmu Sparks Speculation
Modi meets Murmu amid Parliament deadlock and global tensions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, in a meeting that has drawn attention due to its timing. The Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed the meeting in a post on X, stating, "Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan." Specific details of their discussion were not disclosed.
The meeting occurs against the backdrop of a parliamentary impasse, with the opposition pushing for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar ahead of the state’s Assembly elections. The Monsoon session, which began on July 21, has seen limited progress, with discussions largely restricted to Operation Sindoor.
Additionally, the meeting follows US President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of 25% tariffs on Indian exports, citing India’s purchase of Russian military equipment and oil, adding a layer of geopolitical significance to the talks.
