PM Modi’s Rs 4,800 Cr Boost for Tuticorin
Modi launches massive projects to transform Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to transform Tuticorin with the inauguration and dedication of developmental projects worth over Rs 4,800 crore on Saturday.
The highlight includes the new state-of-the-art terminal at Tuticorin airport, built for Rs 450 crore, where the PM will take a walkthrough to showcase its modern facilities.
Modi will also dedicate two major highway projects: the 4-laning of the 50 km Sethiyathope–Cholapuram stretch of NH-36, costing over Rs 2,350 crore, and the 6-laning of the 5.16 km NH-138 Tuticorin Port Road, developed for Rs 200 crore. These projects under the Vikravandi–Thanjavur corridor will enhance connectivity and drive economic growth.

At V O Chidambaranar Port, the PM will inaugurate the North Cargo Berth–III, constructed for Rs 285 crore with a cargo handling capacity of 6.96 MMTPA. Additionally, he will dedicate three railway projects to boost sustainable connectivity in southern Tamil Nadu: electrification of the 90 km Madurai–Bodinayakkanur line, doubling of the 21 km Nagercoil Town–Kanniyakumari section, and doubling of the Aralvaymozhi–Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km) and Tirunelveli–Melappalayam (3.6 km) sections.
Furthermore, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a Rs 550 crore Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) to evacuate power from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 (2×1000 MW). This 400 kV double-circuit transmission line from Kudankulam to Tuticorin-II GIS substation will strengthen the national grid, ensuring reliable clean energy for Tamil Nadu and beyond.
These initiatives mark a significant step toward bolstering infrastructure, connectivity, and sustainable energy in the region.
