Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a pivotal four-day visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives starting Wednesday, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment, defense, and beyond. The trip, announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday, underscores India’s commitment to deepening strategic partnerships with both nations.
In the first leg of his journey, Modi will arrive in London on July 23 for a two-day visit, where he will engage in comprehensive discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The talks will cover the full spectrum of India-UK relations, including trade, technology, defense, climate, health, education, and people-to-people connections. The leaders will also exchange perspectives on pressing regional and global issues. This marks Modi’s fourth visit to the UK, and he is expected to meet King Charles III during his stay. The Ministry highlighted that the visit will focus on reviewing the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with an emphasis on fostering innovation and economic collaboration.
Following his UK engagements, Modi will travel to the Maldives from July 25 to 26 to attend celebrations marking the island nation’s 60th Independence anniversary. Invited by President Mohamed Muizzu, Modi’s third visit to the Maldives will include discussions to advance the India-Maldives joint vision for a "Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership," established during Muizzu’s visit to India in October 2024. The visit reaffirms India’s "Neighbourhood First" policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, emphasizing mutual security and regional growth.
