PM Modi to Visit Assam on Dec 20-21: Himanta Oversees Final Preparations

PM Modi to visit Assam on Dec 20-21 to inaugurate Guwahati airport terminal and Namrup urea plant.

Assam is gearing up to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a two-day visit starting December 20, during which he is expected to herald a “new wave of development” in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a high-level meeting to review the arrangements for the prime minister’s visit, ensuring that all events are executed smoothly. Sarma confirmed that preparations for Modi’s welcome and the planned public programs in Guwahati and Namrup are in full swing.

During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, a key infrastructure milestone for the state. He will also unveil a statue of Assam’s first chief minister, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, at Borjhar, highlighting the government’s commitment to preserving Assam’s political heritage.

In addition to these ceremonial events, the prime minister is scheduled to address a public meeting in Guwahati, engaging with citizens and stakeholders to showcase the government’s development initiatives. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that the visit will provide a platform to highlight Assam’s ongoing growth and infrastructural advancements to the nation.

PM Modi will also visit Namrup, where he is set to lay the foundation stone for a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes. This project is expected to boost industrial growth, generate employment, and strengthen the region’s chemical production capabilities. A public meeting will follow in Namrup, underscoring the government’s focus on connecting with citizens in industrial hubs.

The chief minister directed senior officials to ensure that both events, in Guwahati and Namrup, are conducted efficiently and successfully. Ministers and senior bureaucrats, including Minister of Industries Bimal Bora, BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi, and the managing director of Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Limited S P Mahanta, participated virtually in the preparatory meeting.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, and other senior officials were also present to finalise security, logistics, and administrative arrangements. With meticulous planning underway, Assam is poised to host a seamless and high-profile visit that promises to reinforce the state’s developmental agenda and public engagement.
