PM Modi to Launch 1,449 New Homes in Major Urban Housing Redevelopment
PM to visit Gujarat on Aug 25 to inaugurate PMAY housing in Ahmedabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Gujarat starting August 25, 2025, to inaugurate 1,449 houses and 130 shops constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban in Ahmedabad’s Ramapir Tekra slum, a project costing Rs 133.42 crore.
Implemented under Gujarat’s Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Policy-2013, this initiative in the Sardar Patel Stadium ward targets in-situ slum redevelopment, providing dignified housing and commercial spaces for urban poor communities, according to an official statement released on August 21, 2025.
Gujarat has made significant strides in PMAY implementation, sanctioning 9.66 lakh urban houses against a target of 7.64 lakh, with 9.07 lakh completed. Under PMAY (Rural), 6,00,932 of the 8,43,168 targeted houses have been built since 2016-17, with 39,092 of the remaining 2,78,533 completed between April and August 2025.
The state has introduced incentives like Rs 50,000 per house at the roof-cast level, benefiting 34,759 households with Rs 173.80 crore, and Rs 20,000 for completing construction within six months, aiding 74,930 beneficiaries with Rs 149.86 crore. Additionally, 82,845 women have received Rs 41.42 crore for bathroom construction, with further support under MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission totaling Rs 2,32,920 per beneficiary.
Gujarat’s pioneering efforts include converting 393 houses into Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC) in Surat in 2020, the first state to gain approval under this scheme, and constructing 1,144 houses in Rajkot using advanced monolithic concrete technology under the Light House Project.
With a total expenditure of Rs 8,936.55 crore on PMAY from 2016-17 to August 2025, and 2,39,441 rural houses under construction for completion by March 2026, Gujarat continues to lead in affordable housing, setting a model for urban and rural development nationwide during Modi’s visit.
