PM Modi To Inaugurate Noida International Airport Phase I On March 28
PM Modi to inaugurate Noida airport Phase I, enhancing NCR capacity, connectivity and cargo infrastructure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport on March 28, marking a significant milestone in India’s expanding aviation infrastructure. The airport, located in Jewar along the Yamuna Expressway, has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model and is expected to serve as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR).
During the visit, the Prime Minister will tour the terminal building before formally inaugurating the facility and addressing a public gathering. The launch of the airport’s first phase is seen as a key step in decongesting air traffic in the NCR, which is currently heavily reliant on Indira Gandhi International Airport. Officials say the new airport will complement existing infrastructure while boosting regional connectivity.
In its initial phase, the Noida International Airport is designed to handle up to 12 million passengers annually. Over time, capacity is expected to expand significantly to accommodate as many as 70 million passengers each year. The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation and lighting systems to ensure round-the-clock, all-weather operations.

A major highlight of the project is its integrated cargo infrastructure. The airport includes a multi-modal cargo hub with an initial handling capacity of over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, scalable to approximately 18 lakh metric tonnes. The ecosystem incorporates an integrated cargo terminal, logistics zones, and a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, aimed at strengthening India’s logistics and aviation services sector.
Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is being developed as a comprehensive multi-modal transport hub. It is planned to offer seamless connectivity through road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems, enhancing accessibility for passengers and cargo operators alike. This integrated approach is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency across the NCR and adjoining regions.
Sustainability is a central focus of the airport’s design, with plans to operate as a net-zero emissions facility. The infrastructure combines energy-efficient technologies with architectural elements inspired by traditional Indian styles such as ghats and havelis. Once fully operational, the Noida International Airport is expected to play a transformative role in boosting economic growth, connectivity, and global integration for northern India.
