PM Modi to Inaugurate 150th Anniversary Celebrations of ‘Vande Mataram’ in New Delhi

PM launches year-long patriotic extravaganza today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of India's National Song, 'Vande Mataram', at 9:30 AM today at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The nationwide program, spanning November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, honors the anthem's historic role in the freedom movement and its continued significance in promoting unity. Modi will release commemorative postage stamps and coins during the event, marking the official launch with cultural and symbolic importance.

In a recent post on X, the Prime Minister described 'Vande Mataram' as a timeless call that has inspired generations and kindled enduring patriotism across the nation. A highlight of the day will be the synchronized mass singing of the full version of the song at 9:50 AM, involving citizens across public spaces, schools, offices, and community centers nationwide. This coordinated effort, linked live with the main event, aims to strengthen collective national sentiment and pride.

Written by Bankimchandra Chatterji on Akshaya Navami, November 7, 1875, 'Vande Mataram' first appeared in the journal 'Bangadarshan' as part of his novel 'Anandamath'. The composition portrays the motherland as a divine embodiment of power, prosperity, and sanctity, capturing the spirit of resistance during colonial rule. It quickly became a rallying cry in the independence struggle, resonating deeply with leaders and the public alike.

Approved by the Union Cabinet on October 1, 2025, the commemoration seeks to engage citizens of all ages in preserving this vital piece of national heritage.

The inauguration will bring together participants from cities to villages in a shared expression of devotion to the anthem. The release of commemorative items provides a tangible connection to this milestone. Through structured events and public involvement, the program aims to reinforce cultural identity and inspire ongoing commitment to national unity and progress.
