PM Modi To IIT Delhi Graduates: Your Decisions Will Shape India's Viksit Bharat Journey
PM Modi urges graduates to keep learning and serve national goals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday told graduating students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi that their decisions and contributions over the next three to four decades would have a significant bearing on India's journey towards becoming a developed nation. Addressing the institute's 57th Convocation, Modi urged the graduates to consider the country's needs while making professional and personal choices. More than 3,000 students and 587 PhD scholars attended the convocation.
During the ceremony, Modi inaugurated Param Pragya, an artificial intelligence-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi's Sonipat campus. He also congratulated the graduating students and highlighted their achievements, while noting the representation of women among the medal winners. The Prime Minister remarked that he would have liked to see more female students among those receiving medals, pointing to the need for greater participation and representation of women in academic and technological fields.
Modi also highlighted research and innovation as major opportunities for the graduating students. He referred to initiatives such as the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship, the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme and the National Research Foundation, along with the government's planned funding support for research. He also mentioned the One Nation One Subscription initiative, which is intended to provide researchers across India, including those in smaller towns, access to leading international research journals.

Emphasising the rapidly changing technological and strategic environment, Modi urged the graduates to keep learning throughout their careers. He said advances in technology would continue to reshape industries, professions and global power equations, making it difficult to predict what the world would look like two or three decades from now. He encouraged students to keep their curiosity alive, question established assumptions and develop the ability to find solutions rather than merely asking questions. He also advised them to break complex challenges into smaller, manageable problems instead of being intimidated by their scale.
The Prime Minister further pointed to India's expanding startup ecosystem and semiconductor ambitions as examples of opportunities available to the younger generation. He said IIT Delhi's alumni and students had contributed to the country's startup growth and expressed confidence that Indian talent could play a major role in building capabilities across sectors. Modi reminded graduates to value the teachers, mentors, friends and support staff who contributed to their journey at IIT Delhi. He said that as they move into the next stage of their lives, their decisions over the next 30 to 35 years should remain guided by a central question: how their work can contribute to the country's needs and the broader goal of 'Viksit Bharat'.
