PM Modi Scripts History with 8,931 Days in Office, No Indian Leader has Served Longer
PM Modi surpassed Pawan Chamling's record to become India's longest-serving elected head of government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday became the longest-serving head of an elected government in India, surpassing the record previously held by Pawan Kumar Chamling. With 8,931 days in public office as head of government, Modi achieved the milestone, edging past Chamling’s 8,930-day tenure as chief minister of Sikkim.
The landmark moment was highlighted by Rajnath Singh, who praised PM Modi’s leadership and dedication in a post on X. He described the achievement as a reflection of “nation-first governance” and consistent service, noting Modiji’s journey from state leadership to the national stage.
Modiji first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and served in the role until May 21, 2014. He then went on to become Prime Minister, securing consecutive victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 general elections, further consolidating his position in Indian politics.
